Sheba - Aug 2008Sheba - female German Shepherd cross, approx 1 year old

Sheba is a bright and affectionate young dog with a great deal of potential. She is extremely intelligent and a quick learner, eager to please. Sheba is looking for
a home where she will have plenty of exercise and where someone is home during the day to give her the time and attention she needs.

ChaseChase  - male beagle - approx 4 yrs old.

Chase is a lovable little fellow, a house dog and not a hunter. He is very affectionate, loves people but doesn't get on well with some dogs. Chase would fit well into family life where he would be in a contained environment (a fenced yard would be a bonus) with daily walks.

Tyke

Tyke is a mixed breed female, about 5 years old - a very affectionate and appealing little dog. Although Tyke loves people she doesn't always get on well with other dogs and would do best in a household where she is the one and only.

Tyke needs a secure environment (can climb wire fences!), but would certainly be happy as a house dog with daily walks.

Note: Tyke was successfully adopted in January of this year and was very happy in her new home. Unfortunately Tyke had to be returned to the shelter due to her owner's health problems. Tyke would love a second chance for  good home.

PeggyPeggy is a 5 year old beagle who is quiet and undemanding, with a loving nature. Peggy is very clean and would be a good house dog, although daily walks are important.

Exercise and a strictly controlled diet are an essential part of Peggy's care due to her tendency to overeat. Like all beagles she needs a contained environment, either a fenced yard or walks on a leash, and is looking for a home where a family member is there during the day.

For The Love of Beagles

It is a fact that Beagles are one of the most affectionate and loyal of all dog breeds. Their gentle nature makes them a popular choice for families with children and it would be hard to find a more loving companion. A Beagle gets on well with other dogs and is happy to share. Sounding like Beagles are the perfect family pet? Indeed they are.

Sadly, there are many misconceptions surrounding this particular breed. Ask people what they know about Beagles and all too often the reply is “Oh - you mean rabbit hounds. They’re used for hunting aren’t they?” No doubt they would be surprised to know that these highly intelligent and sensitive dogs make such wonderful pets.

Many Beagles used for hunting spend their life outside, tied or in cramped cages with minimal food, in the misguided belief that this treatment will ensure they don’t lose their instinct to hunt.. This is a myth understood by too few hunters who allow their companions the comfort and warmth of indoor living. Beagles are short haired and not equipped to tolerate our harsh winters, and to isolate them from human companionship is the height of cruelty for these sociable creatures.

The best place for a Beagle is at home with a family who appreciates and treasures the wonderful qualities of these appealing dogs. If you are interested in adopting a Beagle or would like more information, please do contact us, either by phone at 902-245-2303 or email info@tlcshelter.com, and we will be only too pleased to help.

By giving a homeless Beagle a chance for a better life you will be embarking on a very special journey together..
