Barclay June 20 1009Barclay - male Beagle, approx 1 year old.

Barclay is a friendly and lovable little guy. He is playful, affectionate and loves to be cuddled. Barclay would fit well into family life, but does need a secure environment. A fenced yard would be ideal, but he would be happy as a house dog with daily walks. He gets on well with some dogs, but not all dogs, and would do well in a household where he is the only one.

Silver May 24 2009

Silver - male Husky cross, approx 1 year old.

Silver is a friendly and affectionate young dog. He needs plenty of exercise and space, and would do well as part of active family, preferably without very young children. He is a quick learner, responding well to firm commands, walks well on the leash and is very clean in his kennel.

.Smokey May 21 2009
Smokey - male Collie cross, approx 8 years old.

Smokey was rescued from a situation in which he was badly neglected.  Despite his mistreatment, he is a friendly and affectionate little dog.  Smokey requires a quiet home, where someone is not working and is dedicated to giving him time and attention to meet his special needs.  He has an excitable personality and benefits from regular daily walks to work of his excess energy.  Smokey is looking for that special person with patience and understanding to help this appealing older dog adjust to a new environment.

Adoption Pending as of June 28

Dakota - jan 13 2009

Dakota  - female Rottweiler, approx 2 years old.

Dakota is extremely quiet and obedient with an affectionate nature, eager to please..  She is housetrained. Although Dakota is a large, strong dog who needs plenty of exercise, she has a gentle disposition and would be a loving and faithful companion.

Miles - Dec 29 2008

Miles  - Lab/Spaniel cross, approx 4 years old.

Friendly and outgoing, Miles is an affectionate character with a great personality. He is well behaved, a quick learner who responds well to commands, and is extremely clean in his kennel. Miles is a young dog who needs plenty of exercise, loves to play and would  enjoy being part of an active family.

ChaseChase  - male beagle - approx 4 yrs old.

Chase is a lovable little fellow, a house dog and not a hunter. He is very affectionate, loves people but doesn't get on well with some dogs. Chase would fit well into family life where he would be in a contained environment (a fenced yard would be a bonus) with daily walks.

For The Love of Beagles

It is a fact that Beagles are one of the most affectionate and loyal of all dog breeds. Their gentle nature makes them a popular choice for families with children and it would be hard to find a more loving companion. A Beagle gets on well with other dogs and is happy to share. Sounding like Beagles are the perfect family pet? Indeed they are.

Sadly, there are many misconceptions surrounding this particular breed. Ask people what they know about Beagles and all too often the reply is “Oh - you mean rabbit hounds. They’re used for hunting aren’t they?” No doubt they would be surprised to know that these highly intelligent and sensitive dogs make such wonderful pets.

Many Beagles used for hunting spend their life outside, tied or in cramped cages with minimal food, in the misguided belief that this treatment will ensure they don’t lose their instinct to hunt.. This is a myth understood by too few hunters who allow their companions the comfort and warmth of indoor living. Beagles are short haired and not equipped to tolerate our harsh winters, and to isolate them from human companionship is the height of cruelty for these sociable creatures.

The best place for a Beagle is at home with a family who appreciates and treasures the wonderful qualities of these appealing dogs. If you are interested in adopting a Beagle or would like more information, please do contact us, either by phone at 902-245-2303 or email info@tlcshelter.com, and we will be only too pleased to help.

By giving a homeless Beagle a chance for a better life you will be embarking on a very special journey together..
